Notes From An International Student: Marina Kato

Marina Kato, aged 14, Japan

There were two main reasons why I decided to come to Australia to study. The first one was that I wanted to make friends with overseas students and also to learn English because I think it will help me to find a better job in the future.

I think, if I have friends from overseas countries, it will help me to learn about other cultures. At the moment I don’t have many Aussie friends, bit when I go to study in the mainstream classes I will make some more.

The second reason is that I want to learn another language, especially English. I would like to become a successful interpreter in the future and would like to help the people who have some problems in Japanese and English. To become an interpreter I need to study English hard. Actually, I have been studying English for about two years already, but it’s not good enough so I want to improve it.

So, these are my main motivations for coming to Australia to study. I know it is difficult to study abroad, to leave your family and friends behind, but I enjoy the challenge!
