Kylie Steere

kylie steere.

This is Kylie. She has just completed her first year at Griffith University studying Education and she is also a cheerleader for the Brisbane Broncos. She is amazing at gymnastics, aerobics and dance and manages to stay focused on her studies at the same time. Read her profile to see how she does it!

What's your current job/position?

I am at university studying the Bachelor of Education- Primary. I also teach dance, do dance classes, do cheerleading and aerobics part-time.

How did you get there?

I worked fairly hard at school to get into University. To become a dance teacher I did a lot of things growing up including gymnastics, sports aerobics and as I got older I became more involved with the dance side of things. I decided I wanted to do some teaching and asked one of my teachers if there was any work for me. That's how things got started.

What is your most memorable moment at high school?

Year 12 was definitely the greatest memory of my schooling. Besides QCS and study, so many things were happening: the formal, sports leadership, the musical, having great times with friends and making the most of every day!!!!!

Did you have any struggles as a teenager?

I didn't have any major struggles. It was mainly business for me. I had a lot on my plate with school and training. I got really tired and stressed out sometimes.

How did you cope with difficult situations? (What strategies did you use? Which ones worked?)

When things got too much, I firstly had a cry to Mum, as most girls do. Then I'd try and lighten my load by having a couple of days off training or giving myself at least one day a week where I just relaxed and watch movies or something like that.

Some girls have written in and asked about how to speak to boys. Any suggestions?

Try to relax. Don't change your personality when you talk to boys. The fact is they'll probably like you better when you are being yourself, rather than if you were acting fake.

What advice would you like to offer teenage girls?

Be yourself! If people don't like you for who you are, they are not worth being around.
