Toss the dictionary away! Well, for a little while anyway…

Pick up a magazine and choose a story that interests you. You will hit many words that you haven't seen before and don't know what they mean. Choose one word at a time to focus on. Now, without relying on your dictionary, have a look at the other words surrounding the word you don't know. Try to work out the context of the sentence. Then, try to work out the possible meaning of the word you don't know.

Only NOW can you pick up your dictionary and check its meaning. And hey, if you got it right? Give yourself a nice big pat on the back!

Test yourself using the sentences below and then move onto a magazine of your choice.

1. I will start a journal, as recommended, and make entries regularly because it will help me.
